Huw (Merry Christmas E…): And a Happy New Year alre…

+ 9 - 3 | § Merry Christmas Everyone!

I trust you have an '80s Festive Season! ;-)

+ 6 - 10 | § How did I get into radio?

With a great deal of single minded bull headed determination. In my day (a long time ago) you were either IN radio or OUT of radio.
These days there are more areas to 'practice' in. Hospital radio, helping out free on local radio or starting your own internet radio.
I was very lucky indeed to get onto my local radio station Radio Trent in 1975. After this big break, I found it much easier to swap stations and let radio take me around the globe a bit. Israel/Italy/Malta to name a few.
Tips for folks wanting to get on today? simply --- dont give up - send tapes - send tapes and send more tapes. Then when you get a refusal or more likely - dont get a reply at all, send another tape.

I have never been a big fan of British radio, the best sounds always seem to come from a distance - either by listening to a tape someone recorded whilst on holiday or by picking up a fading signal on your radio. These days there are thousands of audio discoveries on the internet from both local stations on AM or FM in remote areas or internet only stations playing specialist mixes. Stuff you would never get from your local or national British radio station. Where will people get thier radio in the years to come? FM, AM, or the diverse world of internet radio?

This brings me nicely to our 80s radio suggestion, part of the new 80s Empire we do recommend all80sradio, it may jog your memoury of the songs you heard in the decade and maybe the stations you heard them on.

Without doubt the most exciting station I had the honour of working/living on in the 80s was Radio Caroline 1883/84. A new Caroline is available today on the internet.

We welcome your comments and views on everything 80s especially memouries of 80s radio, where and when your heard it.

Make a note of the 80s Empire, you will need to come  back.

+ 15 - 2 | § Who is Peter....?

Peter and I came up with the idea for The 80s Empire earlier this year (2005). My connection with the 80s dates back to the days when I used to interview pop stars for magazines such as Number One, Flexipop! and Jackie. While I was slogging around the record company offices, Peter was indulging in the glamorous lifestyle of a radio DJ :-) . By way of introducing Peter to visitors to the 80s Empire, I thought it would be interesting to find out a bit more about the man behind the microphone. So, to kick this Blog off, Peter, maybe you can tell us how you got into the DJ-ing business. And why do you like the 80s music particularly....?

+ 8 - 10 | § TimeSlip Technology

I have just heard more exciting news about this new invention called TimeSlip Technology.

The radio scientists are now very close to releasing the full story on how we are going to be able to communicate directly with real  DJs who are alive and living in the 1980s.

This breakthrough  will surely shatter the worlds perception all time and travel.

More to follow,

Peter reporting from the radio lab.

+ 2 - 2 | § New Blog

It is a great pleasure for me to be the first person to leave a message on this new blogger, I'm sure many other will follow and that together we can revive the great 80s.

I have heard that there is a new scientific development about to be revealed called 'TimeSlip Technology' this is rumoured to be a sort of time machine where we can link back to the 1980s ad communicale with real DJs living in that decade.
