+ 4 - 11 | § ¶Simple Minds Headline World Cup
Simple Minds are set to kick-off the World Cup at a massive party in Berlin. The Scots rockers will headline at Berlin's Brandenburg Gate on June 7th - two days before the first match. The German capital is throwing a party to start a month-long cultural festival that runs alongside the World Cup. "Simple Minds are football mad, so this will be the best gig in the world for them," says a spokesperson for the band. "It comes at a great time in the band's career - they will also be performing a series of outdoor music festivals all over Europe this summer." The band will perform their classic song Don't You (Forget About Me), as well as Home, from last year's critically acclaimed album Black & White 050505.+ 8 - 8 | § ¶Baywatch star critical
....that's critical as in the Simon Cowell brand of critical. But whether one-time Baywatch hunk, David Hasselhoff, can be as downright grumpy as Cowell remains to be seen. Hasselhoff has just been recruited as a critic on a new Cowell-run show called America's Got Talent. Hasselhoff became an international star on the basis of the 1989 series, Baywatch, which - in various forms, ran throughout the '90s and finally got the chop in 2001. Before that he starred in the cult '80s series Knight Rider ('82 to '86). In 1985 he released an album, Night Rocker, and has pursued a mixed career in singing and acting ever since.

+ 8 - 6 | § ¶A Town Called Alice (Cooper)
Best known for his gory live shows in the '70s (featuring, among other things, Alice being hanged and beheaded) and his raucous rock disks - School's Out, I Want To Be Elected, No More Mr Nice Guy etc. - Alice Cooper has been vilified Christian groups and elevated to rock sainthood by the likes of Marilyn Manson. Now, Alice has been given the ultimate accolade by being presented with the keys to the town ... of Alice. The town in question is Alice in North Dakota. On Sunday 14th May, 2006, the Mayor of the town, Dan Lund, gave Alice a gold plated key and said: ""There's not a whole lot of buildings to unlock with that key, but Alice is a cool guy and Alice is a cool city."
While Alice didn't have quite so high a profile in the '80s, he was still capable of hitting the headlines every once in a while. In 1988, the German state of Bavaria threatened to ban Alice if he should chop up baby dolls on stage. He made a famous appearance in the 1992 movie, Wayne's World. Alice is now on a tour that takes him through the USA, UK and Europe. Tour dates on his web site: http://www.alicecooper.com/
