Just chanced upon this site all about The Rocky Horror Show and its creator, Richard O'Brien. Notice the section of Portraits. Here you will find some stunning pix of Richard in full drag - frocks, make-up, wigs, the lot! I can reveal that these were taken in a specialist transvestite store called Transformations back in the early '90s. And why was Richard in this store? Erm, well, you can blame that on me...
It all came about as an idea for my ill-fated 'adult humour magazine' 18 Rated (the one that got banned by W H Smiths
). I decided to ask Richard if he would let us get him dragged up by the professionals. After a wee bit of humming and hawing, he consented. Actually, I think he quite enjoyed it. I know I did! I recall him singing Tammy Wynette's classic, Stand By Your Man as he was being kitted up ("Sometimes it's hard to be a woman...." - seemed oddly appropriate, somehow).
Later, I had lunch with Richard when who should join us at our table but Lionel Blair! Ah, talk about stars in my eyes.... ![]()
