Huw (Merry Christmas E…): And a Happy New Year already

+ 4 - 2 | § Jackson Five to Tour Next Year!

Well, maybe...

According to the BBC:

The Jackson Five are to reunite for a tour, with Michael Jackson set to take part, brother Jermaine has said.
He told BBC 6 Music that concert dates have been discussed and could take place "sometime in 2008".
"Michael will be involved," the singer and guitarist confirmed. "We feel we have to do it one more time. We owe that to the fans and to the public. "

The Jacksons last toured together in 1984.

+ 3 - 3 | § Freddie Mercury Died Today

...in 1991. Thanks to the BBC for reminding me. I actually wrote a few small books about Freddie and Queen (they turn up on EBay from time to time). These were A4-sized glossies, half way between book and magazine format. I remember going to research them in the newspaper archives of the old Daily Mirror building in London at a time when such things were kept in dank old rooms of dank old buildings rather than stored electronically on computers.... ah, how things change!

Anyway, here is a memorable Queen hit from the 1984...

+ 4 - 2 | § Madness NW5, new song, new video, new year

Madness's new single, NW5 will be available on 14th January 2008. The nutty chaps have just posted a video on MySpace, which features footage from Glastonbury, Bestival and more. And here it is...

+ 2 - 2 | § Tight Fit, Lions and Loin Cloths

Tight Fit were two gorgeous girls and a gorgeous bloke. They had Top Ten UK hits in 1981 and 1982 with Back To The Sixties, Fantasy Island and the chart-topping The Lion Sleeps Tonight. Lead singer (as least, I think he sang) was the clean-cut and hunky Steve Grant who did, I have to say, look pretty stunning in a loin cloth...

So when Flexipop! had the chance of doing a photo-story with the group, the first thing we did, naturally, was to get Steve in bed with the girls. But, instead of getting him stripped down to his boxer shorts, we took the somewhat bizarre decision to cover up all his manly charms in a blue furry monster suit - and thus was born the hair-raising ‘Curse Of The Atomic Slime Beast’ (written and directed by yours truly)...

If you have nerves of steel, you can feast your eyes on the entire Slime Beast strip over on the Dark Neon site. Meanwhile, if you just want to ogle Steve and the girls, here is the pretty darn’ fabulous video for The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

Yes, it could only be adventures from the Neon Underground. Don’t know what I’m talking about? Then get yourself to the download page at once, sirrah! For those of you who haven’t been following, I should explain that the Neon Underground is one of the darker and more bizarre corners of The 80s Empire. It is a blog that is beamed to us live from the 1980s. In fact, to be exact, there are two blogs - one written by a pop music journalist known to us only as ‘Boop-a-doop Boy’ and another written by a strange character going by the name of The Dark Neon Underground. The Boop-a-doop blog tends to lead life on the lighter side; the Dark Neon blog is more on the sleazier side of life. Take your pick or read both of them as they happen on the main Dark Neon Underground page.

For those of you who haven’t been following these adventures, we’ve now published a free eBook of The Boop-a-doop Adventures (part one).
